Application Licensing and Security

Licensing and security of distributed applications is critical, especially if they are operating over a public network. AccordSTAR Generator can optionally generate applications which are License ready. Licensing and security of the applications is implemented by enabling sets of IFCs.

In the traditional UNIX environment there is controlled access to data or files based on owner, group, world model. In distributed application environment, being able to run a client or a server is almost equivalent to being able to read or modify data.

To prevent unauthorized access to data via distributed applications, AccordSTAR License provides Application Administrators control over which users can invoke which IFCs from their applications.

AccordSTAR Generator itself is such an example of being controlled by AccordSTAR License in terms of which users can use it and how long the application will be enabled for.

Based on license tokens created, one can implement licensing as well as security features to your applications. Examples of implementing security are responding to only a select list of hosts originating client requests, the time windows within which the requests will be honored, forwarding suspicious requests to a Security administrator, etc.

Also, by using either the default or your own encryption functions you can make it as secure as you wish.

The license tutorial includes a simple application to show you how to use AccordSTAR licensing. Your applications need not be distributed or AccordSTAR generated in order to use licensing.
